The City of Auburn's Housing Repair program helps Auburn's low-income homeowners preserve and stay in safe and affordable housing.
This program provides eligible homeowners grants up to $9,999 for emergency minor home repairs. Leaky roofs, unsafe stairs, floor repair, access for individuals with disabilities, and heating system repairs are examples of work funded with Minor Housing Repair grants.
If you meet the eligibility criteria for the program, one of our City staff members will do an evaluation of your home to determine what this program can do to improve the health and safety of your home. Our Housing Repair Technician will make minor repairs that are needed, then solicit quotes and hire a qualified contractor or vendor on your behalf to handle repairs requiring an expert in that area.
To be eligible for a grant, you must:
- Own a single-family residence or manufactured home located within Auburn city limits.
- Have lived in that residence for at least a year before applying and it must be your principal residence.
- Meet the income requirements (PDF) of the program.
- Provide proof of home ownership and household income as part of the application. We will also need a copy of your homeowner’s insurance policy.
Auburn's Minor Home Repair Program is a voluntary program. While there is no application deadline for this program, funds for this program are limited and there is usually a wait list. Eligible applicants will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, according to the priority system established by the City. Should a project be determined not feasible because it exceeds the amount of the grant, fails to meet any of the program's eligibility criteria, or the applicant refuses the assistance offered, the City retains the right to reject the application.
