People working at table in drop-In SessionOn Wednesdays and Fridays, the Postmark hosts free drop-in hours from 10:00AM-12:00PM! All are welcome to come and work in a casual, no-pressure environment where you can grab a cup of coffee or tea, work on your projects and chat with other artists! No need to sign up or register, just drop in!

Rhythm and Rhymes: Story Hour with Auburn Symphony Orchestra

Taking inspiration from a children’s book, an ASO musician will teach an age-appropriate, interactive music program, and an Auburn librarian will then read the story aloud. Afterwards, families will be invited to explore instruments, and receive a craft to take home. Rhythm and Rhymes combines music and literature for children and families to enjoy over the course of 45 minutes.

This event is free and family friendly. Funded by the Postmark Programming Grant and 4 Culture King County.

Planting Seeds for Stories
Session One: 1 - 2PM
Session Two: 2 - 3PM
Session Three: 3 - 4PM


In dialogue with artworks in the Postmark's current gallery exhibition, Discovered Narratives, plant seeds of ideas and create your own written stories and poems from the exhibition’s imagery. A short group-led activity will provide fertile groundwork before you begin to dig into your own free writing exercise with one (or more) of the works in the show.

Feel free to bring your own writing instruments but paper and pencils will be provided. Group-led activity starts hourly beginning at 1PM (lasting approximately 1 hour). Drop-ins are welcome!

Girl with colorful handmade maskStory masks are a wonderful way to release your personality into a piece of art. Not only through the imprint of your own face, but the stories and symbols that help make you who you are. Bring a partner for this activity! Parent and child partners are welcome. Partners will use the art making process as a way to express and share personal or family stories. In this FREE two-session workshop, we will make plaster masks on our own faces, which will help prompt us to share personal stories.
Please plan to attend both sessions:
June 18th, 3-5pm
June 25th, 3-5pm

This activity is recommended for ages 10 and up. All materials provided!

Second Saturdays - Cardboard Loom Weaving and Redefining Luxury Presentation

Postmark Center for the Arts | 20 Auburn Ave

Visit Postmark Center for the Arts, open to the public each Second Saturday from 12-4PM! Each month features FREE, all ages performances, crafts, and events!

This Saturday is all about weaving and textiles! Guests are invited to make an original yarn weaving using DIY-friendly cardboard looms and stay for a unique presentation on Kente cloth and textiles. Circular weavings make great coasters, trivets, or can be made into small bowls as well. Instructions and all supplies provided! Craft supplies will be available from 12PM-4PM.

Redefining Luxury - The Black Experience of Sustainable Textile Practices

Talk followed by Q&A

Luxury is more than exclusivity—it’s tradition, craftsmanship, and sustainability. This immersive workshop explores the deep-rooted sustainable fashion practices within the Black experience, tracing their origins from Africa to Black American fashion today.

This presentation will touch on sewing techniques and the empowerment of sewing machines, embroidery, weaving, and royal garments, and Kente cloth weaving. Visitors are invited to touch an authentic piece of Kente cloth handwoven by a Ghanaian master and the first 25 visitors will receive a piece inspired by this tradition to take home.

This project supports job seekers, students, and small business owners with a vital career resource while fostering community connection.

Arts of India Present and Past

12:15-1:45PM | Fragile Histories

Starting off with a unique presentation on the endangered tradition of Indian terracotta temple reliefs, presenter Shruti Ghatak will explain the history, symbolism, and cultural significance of the reliefs while connecting them to contemporary art and community dialogue. Presentation will be followed by a brief Q&A.

2-3PM | Musical Performance by Dhawayam

Following the presentation, the band Dhawayam, a group of high-school students, will be performing South Indian fusion music for all to enjoy. 

3-5PM | Art Market Pop-up

Browse locally made artwork from the Postmark community. Art will be for sale as well as on display in the hallway of our lower level print studio. See Art Market Pop-up event details for more information.

Many of the vendors are weekly regulars at Postmark's Drop-in Drawing and Painting sessions, held every Friday in the gallery. Artists will have items for sale as well as on display on the walls of our lower-level print studio. Stop by, browse a bit, and see some artwork from the local community!
