Youth Sports

The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department offers various seasonal sport leagues for kids. A summary of each activity is included below along with the assignment/eligibility procedures. To check out the current season league offerings, visit Auburn @ Play On-line.


Skyhawks Sports for Tots AGES 3-4

Learning sports has never been more fun! These classes focus on basic skills and teamwork. Age appropriate equipment is used to always provide just the right amount of challenge.

Skyhawks Sports Classes AGES 5-12

Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. Our programs are designed to give each child a positive introduction into sports while fostering a lifelong love for an active, healthy lifestyle. Our patient and knowledgeable staff use a variety of skill-building games and activities to give each athlete a complete understanding and overview of the sport. Classes will take place inside gym. Baseball:

  • Baseball - Kindergarten & Rules (PDF): For children who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall of the current year and for those who are currently in Kindergarten. Baseball Kindergarten is a coed instructional team sports program emphasizing sportsmanship and fundamentals in a fun-filled atmosphere. This program will be t-ball and coach pitch for those who are ready for it. Baseball Kindergarten has practices and games once or twice per week (M-Th) depending coach availability, June 2-Aug 8.  $15 Early bird discount if registered by May 7.
  • Baseball - Grades 1-2 | Rules (PDF): League is a coed instructional machine-pitch program emphasizing sportsmanship and fundamentals in a fun-filled atmosphere. Practices and games are on Mondays-Thursdays, June 2-August 8.  $15 Early bird discount if registered by May 7.
  • Baseball - Grades 3-4 | Rules (PDF): League is a natural progression from our instructional leagues. Teams play with 10 fielders, receive five pitched by their own pitcher and game scores are not recorded. Teams practice and play games on Mondays -Thursdays, April 28-June 19.  $15 Early bird discount if registered by April 2.
  • Baseball - Grades 5-6 | Rules (PDF): Teams play with nine fielders and balls and strikes called by an umpire. Teams practice and play games on Mondays -Thursdays, April 29-June 20.  $15 Early bird discount if registered by April 2.
  • Baseball - Grades 7-8 | Rules (PDF): Baseball teams play with nine fielders and balls and strikes called by an umpire. Teams practice and play games on Mondays -Thursdays, April 29-June 20.  $15 Early bird discount if registered by April 2.
  • Girls' Fastpitch - Not offering a fastpitch program due to not having a partner agency to combine league with because we do not get enough players for a standalone league.  All baseball programs will be open to boys and girls.


Flag Football League (Grades 3-8)

Recreational youth flag football all-pass league. Teams will practice and play games on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Practices are scheduled to start mid-November. Games are scheduled to begin early January. Teams will play six games. Players will receive a team shirt and ball as part of their registration fee. Volunteers are recruited to coach. Email reminders will be sent out 7-10 days prior with specifics on time, place and other information. $10 early bird discount if registered by October 18.

Track and Field

This is a recreational track program for all children grades 1-8. The purpose of this program is to teach young boys and girls track and field fundamentals in a fun-filled atmosphere. Sportsmanship, conditioning, leadership, and confidence are reinforced. Participants will compete in various track meets in June and July. Some at home and some at neighboring cities. Practices are Monday (Auburn High) or Tuesday (Auburn Riverside) or Wednesday (Auburn Mountainview) from 6:00-8:00PM and meets are on Thursdays 5:30-8:00PM. You chose the practice day, but space is limited. T-shirt uniforms will be provided for team participants if registered by the early registration deadline Wednesday, May 7. $15 early bird discount if registered by May 7.


Coaches Needed

Volunteers are needed to make the youth sports programs a success. We are always recruiting coaches and assistant coaches. Coaches are certified through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS).
