Postmark’s artist in residence, Yoshi Nakagawa, will guide you through the process of rolling on oil-based ink on Pacific Northwest native plants with a brayer, and hand printing on Japanese shodo paper to take home a botanical impression. Take a deep dive into analog printmaking and learn the fundamentals of water-based screen printing on paper! Students will get a crash course in screen printing and learn to prepare artwork, to coat and burn screens, to register a print, and learn general printing techniques to produce a cohesive edition. No prior screen printing experience is required, though drawing/design experience is recommended for stencil creation. Students who have taken a Postmark screen printing class previously have the option of printing on fabric instead of paper (fabric for printing is not provided). Students have the option to participate in a print trade at the end of the course. All supplies provided by Postmark.

This class is a technical, deep dive into split fountain screenprinting. Split fountain is the analog print term for a gradient, where two or more colors are mixed on the screen to create a smooth transition from one color to another. While difficult, the result is a beautiful color transition that brings simple prints to life in one layer. Instructor Jess Irvine will guide you through print setup, ink management, and share tips she's learned to have you pulling beautifully blended prints in no time. This class is intended for those who have already taken Screenprint 101 and are familiar with the basics of screenprinting. All supplies (pre-burned screens, inks, paper) are provided.

Explore historic intaglio and relief printmaking techniques using versatile and economical Sintra PVC plates. Intaglio inking deposits ink into the recesses of a plate, and relief inking deposits ink onto the raised surfaces. Relief printing with a brayer makes a negative image of the drawing, intaglio the positive. The intaglio process allows for shading, and softer values. Contour line drawings with crosshatch shading work best to transfer onto the plate and carve out with a fine v-gouge carving tool or Xact-o knife. Students will learn to print with an etching press, and take home two intaglio and two relief prints on 100% cotton paper. Tools, plates, inks, and paper provided. Beginners welcome.

If you're a complete beginner on guitar, or know a few chords but aren't sure where to go from there, this class is for you! We have a few loaner guitars available if you don't have your own.
In this class we welcome all stages of adult beginning guitar players. Learn basic chords, easy songs, a little bit of music theory, all in an inclusive and comfortable environment. We will learn the basics of rhythm guitar, lead guitar, and a bit of how to play and sing! The skills you will learn can be translated to many different genres!

The class will be devoted to the Persona Poem—a poem written in the voice of someone or something other than the poet. This is a terrific device to stimulate the imagination. In this class, students will read some examples of persona poems and write their own. The instructor will also provide a list of tips for aspiring poets based on personal experience and considerations, as well as prize-winning poets such as Allen Braden, Mary Oliver, and editors of several poetry journals.

Learn relief printmaking with wood blocks! If you have time to prepare before the workshop, please bring a 4”x 6” image you’d like to work with.
