As part of the City of Auburn’s continued effort to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety, the Auburn Way South Sidewalk Improvement project will construct a sidewalk to fill the missing sidewalk gap from 17th Street SE to Muckleshoot Plaza along the north side of Auburn Way South.

Figure A: Project Location

- Painting new lane lines to delineate the new lane width
- Reducing the speed limit from 45 MPH to 35 MPH
- Installing c-curbing and a raised median for the purpose calming vehicular speeds
- Removing the existing guardrail and installing new guardrail behind the planned sidewalk
- Upgrading the existing streetlights with energy efficient LED fixtures

Project Benefits
- Enhances safety and improves access for pedestrians on the heavy motorized corridor
- Improves vehicle safety by reducing the legal speed limit and implementing traffic calming measures
- Provides more consistent aesthetics throughout the corridor with new curb and gutter and sidewalks that match into the improvements at each end of the project limits
