The City of Auburn is issuing a Notice of Application (NOA) and a Determination of Non-Significance (ODNS) using the optional process for the following described project. The permit applications and listed studies may be reviewed at the Auburn Department of Community Development at One E Main St., 2nd Floor, Customer Service Center, Auburn, WA 98001 and by visiting www.auburnwa.gov/landuse.

Proposal: The Valley Regional Fire Authority proposes to construct a new fire station building on a 1.59-acre site. The proposal is to construct an approximately 14,185 square foot fire station building, two parking lots, an outdoor training area, outdoor landscaped areas, and utility and site improvements. The parking lots will provide twenty-four (24) parking spaces. Currently the site is vacant and largely vegetated with grass and a few trees. Two driveways will provide vehicle and pedestrian access to the site from 30th St. NE. Storm drainage will be replaced with four new detention vaults.

Location: The project site is located at 710 30th St. NE, at the southwest corner of 30th St. NE and I St. NE, within SW Qtr. Section 6, Township 21, Range 5 East, W.M., King County Parcel No. 0001000020.

Statement of Consistency and List of Applicable Development Regulations:  This proposal is subject to and shall be consistent with the Auburn City Code, Comprehensive Plan, and Public Works Design and Construction Standards.

Lead Agency: City of Auburn. The lead agency for this proposal has determined that it does not have probable significant adverse impact on the environment. An environmental impact statement (EIS) is not required under RCW 43.21C.030(2)(c). This decision was made after review of a completed environmental checklist and other information on file with the lead agency. This information is available to the public on request. 

SEPA Environmental Review: The optional DNS process in WAC 197-11-355 is being used. The lead agency will not act on this proposal for 15 days from the date issued below. The City of Auburn has reviewed the proposed project for probable adverse environmental impacts and expects to issue a determination of nonsignificance (DNS) for this project.

Public Comment Period: This may be your only opportunity to comment on the environmental impact of the proposal. All persons may comment on this application. Comments must be in writing and submitted by 5:00 PM on September 30, 2024 to the mailing address of 25 W Main St., Auburn, WA, 98001 or emailed to the contact below. Any person wishing to become a party of record, shall include in their comments that they wish to receive notice of and participate in any hearings, if relevant, and request a copy of decisions once made. The responsible official will reconsider the DNS based on timely comments and may retain, modify, or, if significant adverse impacts are likely, withdraw the DNS.  If the DNS is retained, it will be final after the expiration of the comment deadline.   

Any person aggrieved of the City's determination may file an appeal with the Auburn City Clerk at 25 West Main Street, Auburn, WA 98001-4998 within 14 days of the close of the comment period, or by 5:00 PM on October 14, 2024.
